The art of making cookies?

The American name "Cookie", is derived from the Dutch word "koekje" or "koekie" which means little cake. This beloved treat is popular with kids and adults alike and are made in a wide assortment of styles limited only by the imagination. Using an array of ingredients that includes a variety of sugars, spices, chocolate, butter, peanut butter, nuts or dried fruits, the lowly cookie is ready for any and all occasions.

Cookies are most commonly baked until crisp or just long enough that they remain soft, but some kinds of cookies are not baked at all. In the U.S. the most popular cookies are based on a simple dough of flour, butter, sugar, and egg and flavored with ingredients such as chocolate chips, oatmeal, raisins, or peanut butter.

Cookies may have their origin in early 7th century Persia, shortly after the use of sugar became relatively common in the region. They quickly spread through Europe after the Muslim conquest of Spain and by the 14th century, they were common in all levels of society, throughout Europe.

Many cookies are traditionally associated with Holiday baking particularly at Christmas, like Gingerbread and festively decorated sugar cookies, date bars and macaroons.
